AMERICAN GIRL, TRAPPED IN A FOXHOLE

The world around me
Appears to crash, break, and burn
Stinging eyes through the smoke
My stare blank at every turn
Every route feels so wrong
Each step you forget who you once were
When you can't see though smog
It's hard to plan for your future
They say skinny is in
Because the starving stay thin
Better it be the fashion
Than the reigning fascist that slims
And that's what makes the news
Pretty girls and their bodies
Not the killing of youth
From our senseless bombing
They kidnap our neighbors
We have known all our lives
And ship them like cargo
Right in the daylight
They murder those in protest
Just for using their rights
If the opposing are slaughtered
They cannot put up a fight
"Recession is coming!" they shout
Yet, we can't afford groceries
"It's only the beginning!!"
How much should we plan on enduring?
The days keep on passing
Like a nightmare reoccurring
"Land of the Free"
No longer sounds reassuring
This world is so bleak, so dark and relentless
It's hard to find hope, but I do in quick glimpses
If the wars leave us crumbled and we're left with dark gray abyss
It's the laughter, the sunshine, and the community I'd miss
Trapped in a foxhole- there are rarely atheists
So, I pray to the void
"God, please get us out of this "
